WAWTX AT A GLANCE
Everyone deserves to make a living, regardless of the barriers they face.
Work Again West Texas is a program that helps provide jobs for our neighbors experiencing the barrier of homelessness and connects them to other resources they need to improve their quality of life.
Our participants provide litter management services to the Abilene community, learn soft skills and job readiness training from our program coordinator, and graduate from the program ready to rejoin the workforce.
When our neighbors have a source of income and proven work experience on their resumes, we believe they have a greater chance of getting jobs in our local communities.
Together, we can help our neighbors find work again.
HOW IT WORKS
Work Again West Texas is supported by an advisory board and is operationally powered through a partnership with Goodwill-West Texas.
Workers are employed on a first-come-first-serve basis for part-time work, three days a week. The first portion of their work day is spent in the classroom with our program coordinator, where they participate in life skills training, work skills training, and level one basic needs intervention and referral.
During the second portion of their shift, the Work Again West Texs crew provides litter management services at a growing number of indoor and outdoor job sites, including the streets, alleyways, and trashcans in downtown Abilene.
The program aims to help participants transition into sustainable employment in a field of their choice - helping our neighbors while also providing a potential workforce for local businesses.
The program launched April 25th 2019! If you’d like to support this program, donate here.
